I’ve only ever found people interesting enough subjects to paint. like a diary of my life through the people I’m surrounded by.
The fact that their expressions, emotions, clothing, hair and ages change, present so much more of a challenge to me than a simple landscape or still life.
I obsessively practise by capturing the muses I live with, using them to explore my own ability and indulge in my craft allowing myself time to be in the moment.
I find the difference between my daughters selfie face and less self aware face and how they differ of constant interest.
She hates an un-edited image escaping to the public realm yet spends hours promoting the versions of herself she feels acceptably represent her.
This of course allows us to ponder the honesty of representations at all yet how interesting that I may somehow give the viewer another view of a subject through my own interpretation.
My only hope is that my art has enough presence in a room, that it draws your eye, that it compels you to engage and offers you a version you may not have yet considered.
